Augusta Šenoe 2, Karlobag
Getting down to the restaurant
The restaurant is at the bottom of the town, at the water. The descent is narrow and steep, so read this before you drive.
Where Karlobag is, and where we are in it
Karlobag lies on the Adriatic coast in Lika-Senj County, at the foot of Velebit, directly opposite the island of Pag. The road along the coast passes through the town, and the Oštarijska vrata pass at 928 metres brings traffic over the mountain from Gospić in the interior. It is a small town: 780 residents in the municipality at the 2021 census, 368 in the town itself.
The restaurant is at Augusta Šenoe 2, 53288 Karlobag, at the very bottom of the town on the shore. The coordinates are 44.529551, 15.0670373, and the Google plus code is G3H8+RR Karlobag. If you are following a map on your phone, aim for that point rather than for the street name, because the last part of the way is on foot for most people. Tables are on the rock, under the pines.
Arriving by car
This is the one thing worth knowing in advance. The descent from the town down to the restaurant is narrow and steep. There is nowhere sensible for a car to stop at the bottom, and turning a car around down there is difficult. Some listings show a free car park at the address. First-hand reports from people who have driven it say otherwise, and we side with the reports.
The practical answer is simple: leave the car up in the village and walk down. Park where the town parks, on the level ground above, and take the path or the lane down to the water. The walk is short. Doing it this way turns a stressful arrival into a two minute stroll and means you are not thinking about the car through lunch.
If you are towing, driving a camper van or a wide vehicle, do not attempt the descent at all. The same applies at night and in wet weather, when the surface is slick. If you are unsure where to leave the car, ring 095 365 6633 before you arrive and ask; it is a question the restaurant hears often and answers quickly.

Other ways down
By motorcycle
Motorcycles are the exception. They park directly in front of the restaurant, at the water, which is why so many riders coming over Oštarijska vrata stop here. Helmets and jackets come off at the table, and coffee arrives quickly.
On foot
Walking down is what most guests end up doing, and it is the easy option. Leave the car above, follow the way down to the shore, and you are at the tables in a couple of minutes. Wear shoes you can walk on stone and gravel in.
Access and practical details
Seating at ground level is listed, and the terrace at the water is flat in parts, but the way down from the town is narrow and steep and the surface is rock and gravel. If step-free access matters to you, ring 095 365 6633 first and describe what you need. The staff can tell you honestly what is possible on the day, which is better than a promise made on a website.
Dogs are welcome inside and outside, so there is no need to leave one in a hot car. Children are welcome too, and there is a children's menu. Card, debit and contactless payment are all accepted. For anything else, including the toilets and exactly where to leave the car, the telephone is the quickest route: 095 365 6633.
